Excitement from the #authorlife front…

Where do I begin?

Maybe with Happy Easter!

To those of you who celebrate the holiday, like myself, may you find peace with the season and remember the reason for it. This year is a bit odd for me as it feels like I am personally going through a bit of a period of rebirth and transformation. I couldn’t be happier about this though. There is a real deepening of my sense of purpose, my confidence, and my optimism for what my future holds. I’m writing more, promoting more, and it feels like many things are finally coming together in my pursuit of the “Author’s Life” I’ve always wanted to live. So I’m celebrating all sorts of aspects and themes with this one. And I sincerely hope that all of you are as well.

Last night I was chatting with my best friend Deedra Mosely via Skype while I was checking messages and emails to make sure that all is confirmed for the events I have lined up for April and May. I was expecting the usual confirmation emails of my booth and so forth. That wasn’t to be the case. Instead of the “shout out” about the promo spot on their facebook which I got. I was also asked to do a presentation on “Writing The Paranormal” as part of the convention. The next thing I know, I’m on the schedule and just a teensy bit over-excited. Not good when I really need to sleep and go to the day job the next morning. I must have seen 1:30 or 2:00 AM because I was so wound up and brainstorming what to talk about.

I would love input and suggestions. What are questions that you’d want to ask your favorite paranormal and horror authors?

I get to bring a unique spin to this because I have actually worked with investigations and reseach for years. I’ve made presentations on the subject before. I started out back in the 90s and even founded a local group here before life got in the way of investigating. Not to mention my own priorities changed. I still consult for my former investigators when they need help and reach out but, things have been fairly quiet on that front for years now.  I can’t say that I don’t put experiences into my fiction work. But, you’ll have to read and see if you can pick out those elements for yourself.

Exorcising The Past is firmly planted in the horror genre. In fact, it is sort of a cross genre, if you will. I can’t take it out of the paranormal genre but I am certain that many readers will classify it as horror. I’ll let you judge for yourself though. If you haven’t checked it out yet, it is available right now on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited. If you do read it (and I hope you will) do a girl a favor and leave a review. You have no idea how much you can help authors like myself by leaving a review of whether you liked the work or not.

That being said, this presentation is much different. Before I focused on dispelling the myths about the field and actually giving information to train investigators in terminology and understanding phenomena. That’s a much different sort of talk. There will be plenty of presenters from active investigators and groups. I get to focus on how it influences the creative process and what inspirations it conjures up. I have a ton to consider before I take that stage and plenty of notes to make to take along.

If you have suggestions feel free to leave a comment or email me. You can find information in the contacts.

Oh and yes, I got my limited edition print copies in today and they look amazing! I’ll get pictures this weekend for another post. There is nothing quite like holding a book baby for the first time. I don’t think I will ever get used to that feeling.  You can get your hands on one of these numbered and autographed books soon. I’ll be giving away a total of 6 copies in the next 6-8 weeks.

How can you enter the give away? It’s easy. Just sign up for my newsletter. You should have seen a pop up box when you came to this article. If, by chance you already put your name and email in those boxes, you’re already entered. If not, you can sign up via my website as well www.annebelleauthor.com and under the News & Events tab you’ll see a drop down for the newsletter that will take you to a sign up form.

Additionally, if you come and see me at the table. I will have some additional sign up slips that will put you in a drawing as well. Follow me on social media for additional ways to enter. I’ll do two rounds of announcements and will require your email to contact you if you win.

Good Luck!

What else to tell you about?

Lots of content coming up in April both here and on my Vlog/Podcast. I have a whole calendar set up with topics and when to post what. So I’ll be busy this weekend creating content and getting it ready to go.

If you are in the area and coming to Tyler for the conference I would love to meet you. So stop by my booth to pick up a copy of my novels. I’ll be more than happy to sign and take a picture if you like.  Don’t miss my presentation at 12:15PM on April 21st. Comments here are a way to help me choose questions to address in the talk. Q & A time at the event will be limited because there are so many presenters lined up for this one.

Stay tuned for announcements about other events as well. This is keeping me hopping and I absolutely love it!

Thank you for sharing this journey with me.

New Fiction & Giveaways!

I have been firmly planted in the writing hot seat this week. I’ve been toiling away with final edits, proofs, and yes, even publication. Can you hear the gasp going on behind the screen here?

Seriously though, I realized that I haven’t released any new fiction in years. For an author who wants to build a fan base that is no good. So, I had this gem of a story laying around and I decided that, while the next novel isn’t ready for outside eyes yet, it could be in a short amount of time. So, I shifted gears and got it done! Now, not only are you able to buy it for your Kindle but I am able to do some special things with it.

So let’s talk about this first and give you all the details.

Cover Design by Anne Belle

Exorcising The Past is a short work of fiction that delves a little darker than my past work. But it also opens up a whole new area of fiction that I haven’t explored before. It introduces a team of paranormal investigators who, if readers want, could make some repeat appearances. We’ll see how the response goes.

It will only be available on Kindle as an ebook. Good news is that if you’ve never read my work before and you are a Kindle Unlimited subscriber then you can get it for free. If not, the price point on this one is a fraction of what my novels sell for. So it is a great way for you to try me out before you pick up a novel or two.

From The Cover:

Life was finally coming together for Anna. When Scott asked her to help him with a case involving a four year old child being attacked by unseen forces, she didn’t hesitate. What she didn’t expect was to come face to face with demons direct from her own past. Anna must make the decision to face the past and close doors she didn’t open before she can move on with her life. Will she find a way to be rid of him at last?

Get it HERE!

Extra Bonus Details:

This is only available for purchase in ebook format. Why? Well, I wanted to create something that was more collectable. So, the print edition of this particular work is only available in a limited supply through me personally. Now, I’m reserving these numbered and signed copies for giveaways, contests, and donations. So let me tell you three ways that you can get your hands on a copy of this in honor of the release.

  1. Follow me on social media. Like, share, etc as directed over the next month and I’ll be announcing the winners of two copies on April 27th, 2018.
  2. Two come and see me at events between now and May 15th, 2018 where you can put a ticket into a fishbowl, sign up for my upcoming newsletter, and get a signed copy of both available novels. Each action will give you a chance for one of 4 copies I’ll be announcing on May 21st!
  3. Lastly you can make sure you’re signed up for my newsletter online. Don’t worry, between the blog and noveling, I don’t send out a ton of email. Maybe every six weeks you’ll hear something new from me. Oh, and I won’t be sharing info with anyone. No spam from me! You can sign up here!  http://eepurl.com/bdpeLT
That about covers it! If you’re a KU subscriber why not check it out for free tonight! It is a page turner and a quick read for you over the weekend! Then you can tell me if you’d like to see more of Anna, Scott, Evie, and Dale in the future. Maybe a collection of their paranormal cases? Let me know in the comments or shoot me an email. You know I’m always available there.Facebook to the right!

Rainy Weeks & Event Announcements

It has been a trying week for me. The rain that has been stalled over the area where I live has made the usual routine hard to stick with. We had some sun on Monday; which was a good thing. Of course we’re back to the overcast and stormy weather through Thursday. That makes for a long week when you’re dealing with people all day long and all the rain does for your mood is make you want to curl up in bed with the pup. We can’t change it. So, I’m just trying to make the most of it.

It turns out that this week SamBee’s had an order for some cookies for a wedding rehearsal dinner. So my evenings have been mostly consumed with that project. But it is a nice change when I feel like I am struggling through some areas of manuscript revisions. Sometimes a step back and a change of pace will help clear the tunnel vision and make it easier to move forward when you get a chance to do so.

GeekendI am excited to tell you that I am going to be at another local (to East Texas anyway) event.  Kilgore, Texas is hosting  Geekend which coincides with Free Comic Book Day! The event dates are May 5th and 6th. Along with cosplayers, gamers, and other authors I’ll be set up with books and swag items. The excitement doesn’t stop there though. This will be the first time I’ve been on an Author’s Panel at an event like this. So I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining long-time friend and fellow author Edward Hancock II to talk shop and answer audience questions.

You can find all sorts of information on their Facebook Page HERE. Including links to their event site, schedules as they are available, and all of the other participants and vendors who will be in attendance.

Easing back into the touring part of marketing my work is a bit unnerving. It has been way too long since I’ve been in front of people. But, I’m also very excited about it. I love to meet readers and enjoy talking with other aspiring writers.  You never know who you’ll meet in the process of going to these events. And I’m looking forward to adding more before the end of the year. I have my eye set a couple of events that are held in the Dallas area as well. So we shall see what I can add to the schedule.

Do you know of local events near you that have space or are looking for author’s or speakers on creative writing? I’d love to hear about them so drop a comment to let me know how to find an event in your neck of the woods. You never know when I’ll want to take a trip and I’d love to make those trips worthwhile.

Keeping it simple tonight. As I said, cookies are keeping my evenings busy at the moment. But I wanted to drop a line to announce about Geekend so you can mark your calendars.

Events & Other Writerly Things

Being a writer has perks.

Yes, it is a pretty solitary existence. We spend most of our time alone with a screen and a keyboard for company. However, there are the rare occasions when we get to step out and really enjoy the spotlight.

For me, I have always enjoyed the process surrounding a book signing event. I meet people who share a similar interest and have a chance to talk with them and sometimes it leads to friendships.  Now I haven’t done an event in, what feels like, forever. It’s been a few years. But, I’m excited to announce that I will be a vendor and attending at the Tyler Paranormal Conference. Click on the link and it will take you to the facebook page with all the information. And if you are in the East Texas area and can pop over to Tyler for one of the three days of the event, I would love to meet you. Maybe even sign a copy or two for you.

In other news, I’m entering the rewrite phase of the work on Slauson Cove Book Two. Second drafts are for working out plot holes and deepening the story. This one needs some TLC. That being said, it is time to really get to work on it. And I’m ready to get this one into the hands of all of you who enjoy my fiction work.

The irony is that I’m also working on the final editing phases of a short novella that I will be formatting soon to put out. It isn’t related to the Slauson Cove story line but is something unique that could be a start to a sort of collection of stories based around a group of characters if the feedback indicates that there is a demand for it.

Sort of a short post today folks. I have a ton on my To-Do List. So keeping it short and sweet is practical for me. But, I’ll be back with more insights from the studio. Maybe even with a cover reveal for the novella later in the week. Guess you’ll have to subscribe to stay tuned and not miss that.

In the meantime, tell me what sort of book-related or fiction-related events you enjoy or would like to attend in the comments. I am curious about how I can make these sorts of appearances more appealing and give you all more than just me sitting at a table signing books. Would you enjoy a reading styled event? Maybe a Q & A would be better. You tell me!

Video Days…

Wow guys! I had no idea what an ordeal creating this content was going to be. I am still determined though.

As I write this, it is nearly 1:00AM and I have approximately 5 hours remaining on the rendering of my first video. I have no idea how long it is going to take to upload it to YouTube. But that will have to wait until I get up to be started. So, the video will go up at some point.

In the meantime, I did get my intro to load and I’m excited about that part. So I’ll be working on some other videos this week so I can get some content up but, so you can get the notifications and subscribe. Here it is!

I really wanted to show off the fun side. All the different things I do and I think I succeeded there. I may tweak it as I gather new experiences, clips, and images but for a start I think this is a good option.

I have learned a very important lesson though. I really need to invest in a better computer. This video editing is no joke. And I’m sure it will be a good investment. So, I’m already doing research. Glad this is coming up at tax time.

I know this is short but, I wanted to share what was accomplished. Now, I have to get to the day job in the morning so, I think sleep is a necessary component of my day.

Monday & Thoughts On Living

Hello my readers! I hope that you’re all fairing well in this wintery weather. Here in Texas it was a crazy day. As I was leaving the office the temperature was 52° F and as I got home 30-45 minutes later it was 38° F. I took my umbrella and my coat and gloves this morning when it was about 64° F. It is no wonder that everyone I come in contact with is sick. GermX is my friend lately.

I have a couple of things I wanted to put out there tonight. It is no secret that I have a YouTube channel that I’ve been preparing for. I’m happy to tell you that my first video will be posted on Monday January 15th, 2018. In fact, there will be two! One is a static invitation and about the channel type of post and the other will be actual content post. So, I’m going to backtrack on Monday to post links to those videos for you to easily access them. Why? Because I’m a total Newb at this and have no idea how this is all going to work out until I actually finish editing and uploading. So, please, be patient with me in this process.

I have been blogging off and on for years. I am a writer. It is what I do well. So, you may be asking “why have I decided to jump into the video realm? It’s a fair question. So I’m going to address it here, for now.

This is me. I’m a heavy woman who has always had a big heart. There’s no need to go into the details of why or how I ended up the size I am now. It is just a fact.

Every year, I make a list of resolutions. Like many others out there they include losing weight, eating healthy, drinking more water, and the usual things. But 2017 was a hard year in many ways. The latter half of the year left me doing a great deal of soul searching and dealing with the reality of my own mortality. I started to question myself on a much deeper level. I prayed for clarity and direction. To my surprise, I actually got what I asked for.

I’ve spent most of my life being concerned with what others thought about me. I hid from view in group photos and avoided full body shots. It is something a lot of bigger women (and I assume men) do. We want to look, act, and feel just like everyone else. But, we stand out no matter how much we try to hide away. Then we become painfully aware of any situation that even hints at embarassment for those we love. Subconsciously we read far more into things that are said, many times, than is really there. The result is even further seclusion from the world. For me, something has finally clicked. And I realize that there is something much bigger at play here than just me.

Getting in front of this camera is terrifying. I know that there are going to be people out there who will attack me solely because of the way I look. I deal with that every day. And I’ve often used writing as a way to cope with the emotions that go along with that. This has to get beyond the fear. It will get easier for me. There are going to be posts about writing, creative living, plus size living, and I want to allow all of you a bit of a window into my world. I think it is going to be an exciting thing once I move through the initial jitters. I hope that you will too.

Why now? Because I am tired of living my life on the sidelines waiting to be the perfect size, have the perfect smile, hair, or make up. Life is imperfect. We are all flawed. And I think it is so important for other bigger people to see someone being real, honest, living life, and reaching for a big dream. I’ve been inspired by other writer and youtubers out there who have shared their own journeys. And I feel like I have a unique perspective to offer that could help others find their voice and encourage them to start living their fullest lives as well.

So much in my life is changing. I’ve realized that writing a book isn’t enough. I want this to be a career for me. I want to entertain people with great stories and characters. I want to travel and meet readers, give readings, help and inspire others to reach for their own creative dreams. To do that, I have to get out of my shell. I have to undo years of conditioning. I have to be healthier than I have ever been before and strong enough to say, “You know what world, HERE I AM!” And I am finally there.

Conquering the fear isn’t easy but, I’m just going to go on blind faith that the right people will connect through these means. Blogging, Vlogging, and other social media are tools that will allow me to reach far and wide. This year, is about learning about them and then using them to live my dreams.

So, will you join me?

Connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I’d be delighted if you would join me in subscribing to my new channel as well. Info will be live on Monday as soon as there is a video to share over there.

See ya soon!

Creative Projects 2018

The first full week of 2018 was hectic for me. The day job was crazy busy. That wasn’t so surprising though. First of  the month and after a holiday, I had to expect it. But, I don’t think it is every something I am really prepared for. By the time I was able to call it quits on Saturday I was burned out and ready to come home and relax. Hence no Saturday post because, I didn’t prep it in advance.

A lot of my posts are on the fly and fairly raw for you. This is my way of really giving you my first impressions and the best window into my little slice of the world.

My weekend was nice and relaxing. After the week I had, I really needed to decompress a bit. Being a crafter, I have a couple of projects lying around that I am working on in my spare time. There is a particular one that I ordered to do as a gift for my mother for Christmas. Unfortunately, it didn’t arrive in time for me to complete it. In fact, it didn’t arrive until the 30th of December despite ordering it in November. But let me show and tell you a bit about it.

My mother is very into peacocks at the moment. It is a decorating theme in her living room and kitchen. So, I try to find unique things from time to time for her. This ad showed up on my Facebook feed for something called “Painting With Diamonds“.  They had a sale going on and I decided to buy a kit when I saw this Azure Peacock. I thought it would be a lovely gift for my mother.

Now, I will say that I was disappointed in how long it took to arrive. And, yes, I contacted their customer service and was very happy with the result. So I will definitely order again because this was absolutely meditative and almost addictive once I got started on it.

The whole process is simple really. It is akin to a paint by number or counted cross stitch project but I think the results are a bit more stunning really. Now, I’ll have to post an update once I am able to frame it for hanging but, here are a couple of the process.

Now, I think that it is a great start for someone who is looking for an inexpensive way to start something creative. Why? Well, several reasons.

  1. The images are beautiful and inspiring. They have many to choose from.
  2. They are affordable. This small one was $19.99 and they have a discount code available for additional savings. (HINT it is DIAMONDS so use it when you check out.)
  3. Small or large is your decisions. They all come in various sizes. This was a relatively small project and all said, I’ve likely spent about 48-50 hours to complete it. Which is great for me to think about other things going on and get mental plans going.
  4. It is easy to start and stop and doesn’t requite a lot of space. I placed everything into a gallon ziplock bag when I was done at the kitchen table.
  5. They provide most everything you’ll need. The only additional supplies that I used were scissors and some Ziploc bags, and a Sharpie to mark what number was in the bag. BTW I recommend snack size instead of sandwhich like I had.
  6. You have something gorgeous to frame and say ” I did it!” when you’re done. And that, my friends can motivate you to do other things.

Number 6 is probably the most important of those. Why? Because that momentum is what you really look for. You start with something small and then you branch out from there. This time it might be the diamonds. Next time you may buy a canvas and some paint and brushes. The idea is starting where you are and finding something to kindle that fire for passionate creativity.

I am working on an article that I want to offer my email subscribers that is a list of ways that you can start being more creative on a daily basis. As soon as I figure out all the back end things for putting it all up, I’ll let you know. It’s on my list this week to get those details worked out.

As I get ready to head back to the office I hope that you all have a great week and find some time of your own to decompress.

In the meantime, you know where to find me!

First Quarter Goals of 2018

Welcome back my dear readers!

I have to say, being back to the day job after the holidays is crazy and hectic. I feel all out of sorts trying to learn how to balance it all. But, I will find the right method and learn to do so. It is all a part of making some huge changes in how I’m approaching my life now. It is past time for me to really pour myself into the things I am passionate about. I’m so happy that you’re taking up the mantel with me or at least following my new adventure in life.

So, as the title suggests I am going to be talking about my goals for the first quarter of the year. I have to say that while I set a few last quarter as a trial there were a number of things that got in my way when it came to completing them. Although, I did manage to finish the first drafting of my WIP which was the big goal for me so, I’m super proud of that fact. Now it is time to go beyond that and really flesh out the story and add those details I think it lacks in places so that it can be ready for feedback before publication. Exciting stuff!

Oh and just wait until you see what happens next in Elora’s story! I’m so stoked for you to have it in your hands.

I digress though. So, back on track with goals for First Quarter of 2018

  1. Finish that revision phase for the WIP (Yep, that’s the second, as yet untitled, Slauson Cove novel.)
  2. Post twice a week here on the blog.  After this week, you’ll see posts coming up on Tuesdays and Saturdays here. So make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss them.
  3. Launch my Youtube channel and post two videos a week once that starts. – This one will be a learning curve and I’m not entirely expecting to reach it as it is written. But, I’m going to push to post some sort of creative living or writing advice video along with more of a vlog or day in the life video. More on the schedule as I see how it pans out. Trust me there will be links when it is ready.
  4. Grow my audience by a minimum of 250 new followers between my platform elements. That includes this blog, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and yes, I’m finally getting on the instagram band wagon. So, I’ll post links to all of those. Be a doll and share those links with people who may want to connect or learn more about some great reads.
  5. Answer all relevant comments on my blog and videos within 24 hours of them being posted. Yes that means interacting more with social media. This is definitely a new thing for me so, be patient with me.
  6. Build that email list for my bimonthly newsletter with the first 100 subscribers. Yes this is exclusive access to announcements before they are on the blog or on YouTube about the book, events, and giveaways etc. Keep an eye open for that. I’ll make a special post about it soon.
  7. Get that PO Box set up so I can post that for people to send mail to.

That’s it for this quarter. Of course there are plenty of other things behind the scenes like creating a launch plan for the new book, booking additional events, and making some other things happen. Cover art needs to be worked on, the book still needs a final title, and there is also formatting etc. So the work is never done. But, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

So what goals are you setting for yourself in the first few months of the new year?

Time For An Adventure

It is that time of year again.

Halloween is over and writers the world over are sitting up until midnight to get the first wordsprints in for their new project as part of NanoWrimo. Along with this is a lot of anticipation, excitement, and even anxiety. But, if you’re a writer, or have even thought about writing a book, this may be a challenge to help you get started.

So what is it? NanoWrimo is short for National Novel Writing Month. While it’s name says that it is a national event and, well, it happens to be based in the good old U. S. of A, it has definitely become a worldwide event. It brings writers together over a shared goal and experience, striving to write 50,000 words in 30 days.

All the official details are at their website : www.nanowrimo.org

In a nutshell, the challenge starts at midnight November 1st. Writers who partake of the challenge come in various varieties. Some will start with nothing more than an idea for a couple of characters and a scenario. Others have been doing research and planning for a while but haven’t really written anything to amount to a manuscript. Personally, I’ve tried both approaches with varying levels of success. Whatever the approach, we all start writing and share the experience using forums, in-person events organized by someone in the area, twitter, facebook, etc.

It is an exercise in creative thinking and time management. I’ve completed the challenge before and found it rewarding. It gave me material to refine that eventually became my first novel The Secret of the Storm. Now, I’m signed up under the pen name and happy to connect with other writers. This year, my project is the sequel to that first novel. I hope to replicate the prior success. And in the process launch a new venture. So, stay tuned for that.

If you’re a writer who wants to make strides in your writing, I extend an invitation to the challenge.  Connect with me and keep up with novel progress by following me on facebook or connecting with me on the Nanowrimo site as I update word counts throughout the month. This month there will be some extra posts about the progress as well.  So open a word processor (Scrivener and several other sponsors offer free trials for November for NanoWrimo Participants) and put your idea on the page with me and the other writers taking the challenge.

Happy Halloween…

If you’ve not already taken the kids out trick or treating then, I hope you have fun, get lots of loot, and make great memories. If you’re recovering from a costume party over the weekend, I hope that it was eventful and memorable for you. Likewise I hope that we’re all ready to jump into the holiday season and make the most of it.

For my Halloween weekend festivities, I kept it quiet. I enjoyed a well-deserved day and  a half away from the day job by snuggling with this little guy and watching Stranger Things 2 on Netflix in a glorious marathon of binge watching while working on an embroidery project that will be added to my mother’s Christmas decor. East Texas weather didn’t disappoint me either. It ended up being quite chilly and I was enjoying my new slippers and my favorite comfy pants. I even realized that I’ve lost inches since my sugery in September. That was a big plus for me.

October has been a busy month. The first half of it was spent preparing for a charity event where we displayed this beauty. I’m planning on a post to explain all of it but, just looking at it is awesome. Out of that we actually booked our first wedding cake as well. That will happen next year as they are planning early. I am excited about it though.

As I wrap up the month I am finding myself a bit more determined to make the most of the end of 2017.  I need to finish my current WIP draft and get on with the process. I’ve put it on hold long enough. Nanowrimo is a perfect excuse to do just that. I’ll post about that tomorrow and what to expect in November from me. There are definitely changes brewing for me.

There will be more posts of writing projects and other creative endeavors. And looking ahead. 2018 is sure to be a big year for me. It’s all about priorities. And I’m getting those in line.
