Excitement from the #authorlife front…

Where do I begin?

Maybe with Happy Easter!

To those of you who celebrate the holiday, like myself, may you find peace with the season and remember the reason for it. This year is a bit odd for me as it feels like I am personally going through a bit of a period of rebirth and transformation. I couldn’t be happier about this though. There is a real deepening of my sense of purpose, my confidence, and my optimism for what my future holds. I’m writing more, promoting more, and it feels like many things are finally coming together in my pursuit of the “Author’s Life” I’ve always wanted to live. So I’m celebrating all sorts of aspects and themes with this one. And I sincerely hope that all of you are as well.

Last night I was chatting with my best friend Deedra Mosely via Skype while I was checking messages and emails to make sure that all is confirmed for the events I have lined up for April and May. I was expecting the usual confirmation emails of my booth and so forth. That wasn’t to be the case. Instead of the “shout out” about the promo spot on their facebook which I got. I was also asked to do a presentation on “Writing The Paranormal” as part of the convention. The next thing I know, I’m on the schedule and just a teensy bit over-excited. Not good when I really need to sleep and go to the day job the next morning. I must have seen 1:30 or 2:00 AM because I was so wound up and brainstorming what to talk about.

I would love input and suggestions. What are questions that you’d want to ask your favorite paranormal and horror authors?

I get to bring a unique spin to this because I have actually worked with investigations and reseach for years. I’ve made presentations on the subject before. I started out back in the 90s and even founded a local group here before life got in the way of investigating. Not to mention my own priorities changed. I still consult for my former investigators when they need help and reach out but, things have been fairly quiet on that front for years now.  I can’t say that I don’t put experiences into my fiction work. But, you’ll have to read and see if you can pick out those elements for yourself.

Exorcising The Past is firmly planted in the horror genre. In fact, it is sort of a cross genre, if you will. I can’t take it out of the paranormal genre but I am certain that many readers will classify it as horror. I’ll let you judge for yourself though. If you haven’t checked it out yet, it is available right now on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited. If you do read it (and I hope you will) do a girl a favor and leave a review. You have no idea how much you can help authors like myself by leaving a review of whether you liked the work or not.

That being said, this presentation is much different. Before I focused on dispelling the myths about the field and actually giving information to train investigators in terminology and understanding phenomena. That’s a much different sort of talk. There will be plenty of presenters from active investigators and groups. I get to focus on how it influences the creative process and what inspirations it conjures up. I have a ton to consider before I take that stage and plenty of notes to make to take along.

If you have suggestions feel free to leave a comment or email me. You can find information in the contacts.

Oh and yes, I got my limited edition print copies in today and they look amazing! I’ll get pictures this weekend for another post. There is nothing quite like holding a book baby for the first time. I don’t think I will ever get used to that feeling.  You can get your hands on one of these numbered and autographed books soon. I’ll be giving away a total of 6 copies in the next 6-8 weeks.

How can you enter the give away? It’s easy. Just sign up for my newsletter. You should have seen a pop up box when you came to this article. If, by chance you already put your name and email in those boxes, you’re already entered. If not, you can sign up via my website as well www.annebelleauthor.com and under the News & Events tab you’ll see a drop down for the newsletter that will take you to a sign up form.

Additionally, if you come and see me at the table. I will have some additional sign up slips that will put you in a drawing as well. Follow me on social media for additional ways to enter. I’ll do two rounds of announcements and will require your email to contact you if you win.

Good Luck!

What else to tell you about?

Lots of content coming up in April both here and on my Vlog/Podcast. I have a whole calendar set up with topics and when to post what. So I’ll be busy this weekend creating content and getting it ready to go.

If you are in the area and coming to Tyler for the conference I would love to meet you. So stop by my booth to pick up a copy of my novels. I’ll be more than happy to sign and take a picture if you like.  Don’t miss my presentation at 12:15PM on April 21st. Comments here are a way to help me choose questions to address in the talk. Q & A time at the event will be limited because there are so many presenters lined up for this one.

Stay tuned for announcements about other events as well. This is keeping me hopping and I absolutely love it!

Thank you for sharing this journey with me.

Really? And these kids want to what?

As I went about my day, I found that I really have little patience for stupidity. And I am sure that someone will label me a fuddy-duddy for this anectdote. I no longer care whether or not I am considered hip, cool, or fashionable. I’m not trendy. And I like what I like and despise what I please without reservation. I’m too old to play these games and hide the fact that I have a brain and can use it. So, I’m going to use this experience from earlier to make a point or two about things, I believe to be, wrong in our society.

For a bit of back story. I work for a loan company. It’s one of those places that are a chain and offer astronomically priced loan products. It is the sort where customers are desperate without alternatives and well, they take advantage of a bad situation and generally make it worse. Quite frequently we are mistaken to be a place where people can pay bills or cash checks without the need for a bank account. It happens. And as a rule, I explain that it isn’t a service we offer. They ask where they can and I give a couple of local options and people are frustrated but, they go about their way to get their cash.

Today however, was a different story. About an hour prior to closing a maroon Chevy sedan pulls up outside. Clearly Momma is driving since a young man got out of the pasenger side. Now, his sagging pants, hoodie, and ball cap turned to the side didn’t make for a good first impression to begin with. But, he came in and I was my chipper friendly self. He asks the question I figured was coming. “Do you cash personal checks?”

This is the conversation that ensued:

Me: Sorry, that’s not a service we offer here. I’m simply a loan company.

Him: But Google said you do.

Me: Well, Google is mistaken. I don’t do any check cashing at all personal, payroll, or otherwise.

Him: But Google says you did.

Me: (loosing my patience) Yeah well, I’ve been here for three years and we’ve never cashed checks. Sorry about that.

Him: But it says-

Me: Honey, Google is wrong! I cannot and will not cash that check for you. Period. End of discussion about Google. You can try  **** or ****. See if they can help you out.

Him: I’ve already been there.

Me: May I suggest getting a bank account with one of the local banks. Or taking the check to the bank that it is written from.

Him: Huh?

Me: Where is the check from?

Him: My mom.

Me: No, what bank.

Him: I don’t know my mom gave it to me.

Me: Okay so, I can’t help you with your check. Good luck and have a nice day!

Took another two minutes of blank stares and me refusing to say anything further before he took the hint that it was time to leave.

This kid was likely 17 or 18 and seemed perfectly normal otherwise. I didn’t ask for an I.D. But, all I could think to myself was that these kids are going to be running the country some day. Our educations system is failing them if we can’t even get them to comprehend something as simple as the answer to that question.

Do you do X?

No, I don’t. We provide product/service Y.

The exchange seemed surreal to me. Like he honestly believed that Google was God and that if he told me enough that Google said we did something that it would somehow make me start doing what he wanted. Fortunately, I’m not easily swayed in that way. But, then again, I head about things others in the same business (company) do and I wonder about their ability to reason and think logically.

I see this more often now and it is truly disturbing to me. Sadly it isn’t only the kids I see this with. It is adults too. And these experiences really take a toll on my optimism for the direction of human evolution.

Honestly, this is a case of life being stranger than, or at least as strange, as fiction.

New Fiction & Giveaways!

I have been firmly planted in the writing hot seat this week. I’ve been toiling away with final edits, proofs, and yes, even publication. Can you hear the gasp going on behind the screen here?

Seriously though, I realized that I haven’t released any new fiction in years. For an author who wants to build a fan base that is no good. So, I had this gem of a story laying around and I decided that, while the next novel isn’t ready for outside eyes yet, it could be in a short amount of time. So, I shifted gears and got it done! Now, not only are you able to buy it for your Kindle but I am able to do some special things with it.

So let’s talk about this first and give you all the details.

Cover Design by Anne Belle

Exorcising The Past is a short work of fiction that delves a little darker than my past work. But it also opens up a whole new area of fiction that I haven’t explored before. It introduces a team of paranormal investigators who, if readers want, could make some repeat appearances. We’ll see how the response goes.

It will only be available on Kindle as an ebook. Good news is that if you’ve never read my work before and you are a Kindle Unlimited subscriber then you can get it for free. If not, the price point on this one is a fraction of what my novels sell for. So it is a great way for you to try me out before you pick up a novel or two.

From The Cover:

Life was finally coming together for Anna. When Scott asked her to help him with a case involving a four year old child being attacked by unseen forces, she didn’t hesitate. What she didn’t expect was to come face to face with demons direct from her own past. Anna must make the decision to face the past and close doors she didn’t open before she can move on with her life. Will she find a way to be rid of him at last?

Get it HERE!

Extra Bonus Details:

This is only available for purchase in ebook format. Why? Well, I wanted to create something that was more collectable. So, the print edition of this particular work is only available in a limited supply through me personally. Now, I’m reserving these numbered and signed copies for giveaways, contests, and donations. So let me tell you three ways that you can get your hands on a copy of this in honor of the release.

  1. Follow me on social media. Like, share, etc as directed over the next month and I’ll be announcing the winners of two copies on April 27th, 2018.
  2. Two come and see me at events between now and May 15th, 2018 where you can put a ticket into a fishbowl, sign up for my upcoming newsletter, and get a signed copy of both available novels. Each action will give you a chance for one of 4 copies I’ll be announcing on May 21st!
  3. Lastly you can make sure you’re signed up for my newsletter online. Don’t worry, between the blog and noveling, I don’t send out a ton of email. Maybe every six weeks you’ll hear something new from me. Oh, and I won’t be sharing info with anyone. No spam from me! You can sign up here!  http://eepurl.com/bdpeLT
That about covers it! If you’re a KU subscriber why not check it out for free tonight! It is a page turner and a quick read for you over the weekend! Then you can tell me if you’d like to see more of Anna, Scott, Evie, and Dale in the future. Maybe a collection of their paranormal cases? Let me know in the comments or shoot me an email. You know I’m always available there.Facebook to the right!

New Fiction

It seems like it has been ages since I’ve published anything new. In fact, I doubt it even just seems that way and actually has been ages. Now, I know that whether I publish or not doesn’t define my status as a writer. I write, thus I am a writer by definition. However, my stories going out to the masses is a part of the process that is long overdue. And without further ado, let me just introduce my latest crazy contribution to the world of horror and supernatural fiction.

Exciting stuff right?! I’m really excited about this one. It will be a quick read for those who enjoy the genre. But, I’m happy to say that this could be the start of a series of short works that could be compiled into a collection later on. I am certainly open to the idea of the continuing characters and theme of the paranormal investigation cases if you, my dear readers, want more of Scott and Anna.

Just a quick preview this time. More details coming later in the week!

Tiny Hiatus…

Sometimes the day job gets to me and makes it hard to get into creative mode. I’ve had a stressful week at the office. It has been one of those weeks where it felt like all I could do was go to work and come home to rest. So that’s what I did.

I added some new titles to my audible read list. Downloaded and just spent time doing things that were mindless and yet, allowed me to absorb and find my motivation and inspiration again. As my weekend approached I find that I am getting back to my old self and that my motivation and inspiration has returned. There is, of course, much work to be done. But, sometimes you need to step back and take a break in order to push through the roadblocks.

So I sat down with my planner and realized that I have little time to prepare for events coming up. My website over at www.annebelleauthor.com has an update on those events. Details about venues and happenings can always be found under the BIO section in News & Events. There you’ll find a calendar with events listed.  Skip to April to see where I’ll be so you can meet me and get your signed edition.

Now that I’m back in the saddle, so to speak, I’m excited about how this book is shaping up. It won’t be long before I can put it into the hands of beta readers who will help me finish the second round of revisions. That means I’m closer and closer to getting it to all of you readers. But, not to worry. I have a little surprise coming soon that will help pass the time before the next book.
